Missouri Secretary of State Robin Carnahan announced that Livingston County Library received a Missouri State Library Discoveries: Programs for Seniors grant in the amount of $1,777.72. The grant will be used for four different programs focusing on basic computer use for seniors.
According to Robin Westphal, library director, several free sessions are planned from September through June. Each session will include the following four classes which will meet weekly:
An introduction to computers
Basic Internet
Introduction to email
Internet searching
Westphal said there is a limit of
nine persons per session and the first session is planned to start on
September 10, 2007. Those interested in participating are urged to contact the
library to register.
"Missourians are blessed to have
a strong network of local public libraries throughout the state," said
Carnahan. "Strong local libraries provide citizens with access to vast
new resources and information right in their own communities. I'm pleased that
this federal grant funding will help support the Livingston County Library and
provide library patrons even better services and programs."
The Secretary of State's Missouri
State Library Discoveries: Programs for Seniors Grants are funded by the
Library Services and Technology Act through the US Institute of Museum and
Library Services, which is the primary source of federal support for the
nation's 122,000 libraries and 17,500 museums. The institute's mission is to
create strong libraries and museums that connect people to information and
ideas. So far, during this fiscal year, the Missouri State Library has
approved a total of 50 grant applications that have distributed $660,020 in
awards to libraries.
